Part 1: Activate Your Account
Step 1
Open an InPrivate or Incognito browser window on your computer.
Using Shortcut Keystrokes:
• Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge - Press CTRL + SHIFT + N
• Mozilla Firefox - press CTRL + SHIFT + P
For more information, refer to: How to open in Private or Incognito Mode
Step 2
Visit the Get Started page (from NBCC.ca, refer to Student Services > IT Services > Get Started)
Click on Activating Your NBCC Account and review all pre-requisites. Once ready – click the “Activate your Account” button at bottom of the screen or click here.

Step 3
On the NBCC Account Activation page:
Enter the following:
- Student ID Number (found on your acceptance letter)
- Date of Birth
- Personal Email Address
Note: It is important to provide a personal email mailbox that you have direct access to. A confirmation email will be sent to this email address and must be verified in order to complete the account activation process.

When all fields have been entered, click Submit.
Step 4
Check your personal email account (the one you provided in Step 3) and locate the verification email from NBCC. Verification emails typically arrive within 5 minutes but can take up to 15 minutes.
Search for and open the 'NBCC - Verify your email address' email message. If the email is not found, review any SPAM or JUNK email folders. If no email has arrived after 15 mins, double-check the email entered in Step 3 and try again.
Step 5
Click the verification link contained in the email.

Note: The link is only valid for 24 hours. When the link has expired, restarting from Step 1 and resubmitting your activation request is required.
Step 6
Create your NBCC password and configure your security question and answer.
Note: Your password must be a minimum of 12 characters, have at least one number and one uppercase letter, and at least one of the special characters listed.

When all fields have been entered, click Finish.
Step 7
After clicking 'Finish', the system will provide your NBCC login ID.
Important: Record your username in a secure location before proceeding. You will need these credentials to complete MFA registration and access NBCC services.
Your sign-in address will be similar to:
firstname.lastname@mynbcc.ca

You will use these credentials to access:
- Brightspace
- Student Self-Service
- Outlook
- Microsoft Teams
- Microsoft 365 applications
- Other NBCC services
Once the timer counts down to 0 in the screenshot above, a window will pop up saying “More Information Required” and you’ll then press the “Next” button to start the Primary Multi-factor Authentication setup
Please note: If you are not automatically redirected, use the click “here” option from the above screenshot.
Part 2: Set Up Microsoft Authenticator
Why This Is Required
NBCC uses Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to help protect your account and personal information.
You will use Microsoft Authenticator to approve sign-in requests when prompted.
Step 1
When prompted, enter your full @mynbcc.ca email address and the password you created earlier, then click Sign In.
Step 2
When prompted that additional security information is required, begin MFA setup by clicking 'Next'.

Step 3
On your smartphone, download and install the Microsoft Authenticator app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Step 3
Open Microsoft Authenticator.
Step 4
Allow notifications when prompted.
Step 5
Allow camera access when prompted.
Part 3: Register Your Device
Step 1
Using your phone, within the Microsoft Authenticator app, choose the option to Scan a QR Code.

Step 2
Continue through the MFA setup screens on your computer until a QR code is displayed.

Step 3
Use your phone to scan the QR code displayed on your computer.
Note: If prompted, click OK to Allow camera access.
Step 4
Approve the test notification sent to your phone.

Note: If prompted, click OK to Allow notifications.
Step 5
Continue with the registration process on your computer until the success message appears.
You’ll receive a “Success! You have successfully set up your security info” message and you’ll press the “Done” button.

Congratulations! Your account has now been activated!
During the MFA setup process, you may be prompted to download the Microsoft 365 (Copilot) app. This step is optional and can be skipped for now.
While the app is not required to activate your account or complete MFA setup, it may be needed later to access certain Microsoft services and provides an optimized experience on mobile devices.
Part 4: Access NBCC Services
After setup is complete:
- Sign in using your NBCC username and password.
- Approve sign-in requests using Microsoft Authenticator when prompted.
You are now ready to access NBCC online services.
